One-day Industrial Visit to Cement Factory
As a part of curriculum and request from the Class Review Committee the Students of II, III, IV year B.E Civil Engineering planned to had a one-day industrial visit to Cement Factory, Thoothukudi on 18-09-2025 accompanied by the department faculty in-charges Mr. H. Hanio Merinkline, Mr.S. Shijilin, Mrs.V. Monisha, Visitors (students and the accompanying staff) travelled to Ambuja Cement Factory by transportation arranged by the Student co-ordinators. The journey commenced at around 7:00 PM from College Campus on 18-09-2025 and reached Ambuja Cement Factory at around 11:00AM on 18-09-2025(Thursday). An industrial visit to a Cement Factory was organized to provide students with practical exposure to the manufacturing process of cement and its applications in the construction industry. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world industrial practices.
Guest Lecture on “Real World Civil Engineering Insights”
A guest lecture on “Real World Civil Engineering Insights” was conducted by the Department of Civil Engineering on 22nd September 2025 at 2:00 PM at Bethlaham Institute of Engineering. The session featured an inspiring address by the distinguished guest speaker, Er. S. Kannan, Managing Director of Anuk Traditech, who shared his rich practical knowledge and professional experiences from the field of Civil Engineering. His talk offered students a comprehensive understanding of the latest industry trends, the challenges faced in the profession, and the expectations awaiting future engineers. The students actively participated in the interactive session, making it a highly informative and motivating experience.
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Bethlahem Institute of Engineering, Karungal organized a One Day Workshop on “STAAD Pro “on 28rd August 2025 at 9:30 AM to 4.00 PM. The programme aimed to Enable participants to develop and present a simple Structural Analysis Tools using STAAD Pro. The resource person for the programme was Ms.S.Shyama, CAD Engineer Civil, CAD DESK, Marthandam. This workshop was organized with the objective of introducing participants to A one-day workshop on STAAD.Pro was organized to provide students with practical exposure to structural analysis and design using the software. STAAD.Pro is one of the most widely used structural engineering tools that helps in analyzing and designing structures such as buildings, bridges, towers, and industrial projects.

The programme aimed to Enable participants to develop and present a simple architectural project in Revit. The resource person for the programme was Ms. K Nithya, CAD Engineer Civil, CAD DESK, Marthandam. This workshop was organized with the objective of introducing participants to Building Information Modeling (BIM) and hands-on practice with Autodesk Revit Architecture. With the increasing demand for BIM professionals in the construction industry, it is important for students and practitioners to gain exposure to digital design platforms that enhance productivity, accuracy, and collaboration in architectural projects.
Seminar on Innovation in Sustainable Urban Infrastructure Development
A one hour Seminar program was organised by the department of Civil Engineering on 16/04/2024 from 10.00 A.M. to 12.00 P.M. Resource person Sony P/Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Stella Mary's College of Engineering has taken the topic on “Innovation in Sustainable Urban Infrastructure Development”. Shee has delivered lectures in various organizations and around 32 students and 8 faculty members participated in this programme.
Workshop on Vision to Reality in Construction Industries
The event began with a prayer by Mr. Anto Vidson (Final year student). Our student Mr.E. Pritten Kot (Final year) heartily welcomed the staff, students and chief guest, Er.R.Jereesh, Technical Trainer, CADDESK, Nagercoil to the workshop. Next, our Principal, Dr. C. Emmy Prema, M.E., Ph.D., felicitated the event by congratulating the chief guest with a memento. After that the Chief guest, Er.R.Jereesh, start the workshop in our computer lab and clearly explain the visual reality tools. He also demonstrate it with a VR device. Students visually saw the Constructed modular buildings.
Workshop on” Entrepreneurship & Innovation” as career Opportunity
The objective of this Mentoring Session with the brief note on the fundamental aspects of sustainable civil engineering is green building design and construction. This involves the incorporation of eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient technologies, and innovative designs that reduce resource consumption and waste generation.
INDUSTRIAL SITE VISIT
Apart from academic our Department also gives importance to the students to relive their stress, every Academic year students trip are planned for students to take them to Industrial cum leisure places within all parts of our country for two day trip ,5day trip one week trip for the students to historical places and great Construction sites L&T construction four lane road projects, Precast yard ,Treatment plants ,Bridge and other Hydraulic structures and other Infra structure projects .

The Department has got its Association named Spartans, successfully conducted National level technical symposium LASTRA 2K19 and FCONZ 16 , number of students from various other college participated in various event like paper presentation, Technical quiz and other events
Value added courses offered:
Our Department provides certain short term courses which are beneficial for the students in their upcoming future. Certified training programs on Advanced Surveying Using Total Station Equipment for the III year students which is inevitable for the present construction scenario and for enhancing their technical knowledge. Our Department provides several Auto-Desk software training for the students of each year. Memorandum of understanding (MoU) had been signed between CAD center and Our Department for conducting value added courses in our computer lab by CAD center resource person for the BE and ME students to attain good knowledge of the latest software like ETABS,STAAD,REVIT

STUDENTS SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
Our Civil Department students actively contributed in charity programme by sending consumables and Non consumables things for the basic need of flood relocated peoples in camps in WAYANAD and other districts of Kerala during flood havoc time in Kerala
WORKSHOP ON SMART CITY INFRASTRUCTURE MODELLING- 2024
The Department of Civil Engineering hosted a workshop on “Smart City Infrastructure Modelling” on September 3, 2024, featuring a range of engaging activities. The event began with a warm welcome from Ms. Nehumath N, a fourth-year Civil Engineering student. Principal Dr. C. Emmy Prema delivered a felicitation address and discussed the job opportunities for civil engineers in the government sector. Following this, Akshaya J L, a second-year Civil Engineering student, introduced the chief guest, Mr. Jereesh. The Head of the Department, Mr. S. Shijilin Prem Shirold, honored Mr. Jereesh with a memento and a shawl.
